Robotic Bebop Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Super7) (Super7)It's been over a year since Super7 integrated Robotic Rocksteady into their TMNT Ultimates line, bringing back an unexpected deep-cut that was originally released around the time the OG Turtles line shifted away from new characters and started doing variants. Before him, wave 7 was slated to include Bebop's metal doppelgänger, but for some reason (likely having three huge figures), the wave was pushed back, by a lot. It finally came out a few months ago, and now it's time to see if it was worth the wait. Like Robosteady, Robobop's head is a blockier version of the regular Bebop, and Four Horsemen recreated it in a larger scale near perfectly. The eyes on the original were cast in a translucent red plastic, either encased in the back of the head or sharing a piece with the mohawk. That doesn't seem to be the case here, and it's hard to tell if the eyes are plastic or just painted. The mohawk is different from the original, being pointed at the front rather than flat, and is translucent plastic. The original had some black areas on the head, but they aren't painted here, either being something they forgot or an intentional change. The visor and nose ring are still unique colors, and the edges on them are pretty clean. This guy proves to be quite a big bot, standing 8 1/2" tall up to the mohawk, and it helps he's no longer stuck in a squat stance. The larger size allowed the designers to put more details into the sculpt, as well as change some, such as the blue accents on the arms being shifted around a bit and the tabs on the shins now being cords, cast in a softer plastic. The shoulder pads/turrets are now attached to the torso rather than being sculpted onto the shoulders, and they can flip up and down so they don't get in the way of arm movement. The turrets can be removed, so he can match those various OG Robobops on eBay that lost their turrets (such as mine). The paint is mostly fine aside from some uneven edges and scuffs, but the main issue is the base color. He's a darker silver than Robotic Rocksteady, and while it's alright, I would've preferred it if he matched his partner. You're getting near-standard articulation here, as Robohog has a barbell neck, swivel/hinge shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees, and ankles, swivel biceps and thighs, and a ball (possibly barbell) chest. He feels a bit more limited than Robosteady, namely in the legs. The hips can't go out to the side all the way due to the design, and the ankles rotate, but don't have any rocker movement. Those nits aside, he can move pretty well, with great up and down movement in the neck, and plenty of pose options all around. His left elbow swivel is on the loose side, however, so be mindful of that. Robobop is more outfitted with accessories than Robosteady, giving you a better value, especially given he's standard price unlike the other robot. He has the three necessary pairs of hands - relaxed, gripping, and closed - as well as the "Mechanical Mutant Claw" from the original figure. Rather than just fitting over the hand, the claw can take the place of the right hand, as it can pop out at the blue forearm piece. Also carried over from the original are his "Laser Luger/Flame Thrower Combo," which is a very funky-looking firearm, and his "Stained Steel Cutter" machete. Both the gun and machete can take some work to get into his hands, but you shouldn't need any heat for them. New extras for him include a pair of turret blast effects (different from Rocksteady), a shield (same as Rocksteady's, but blue), a drill that can take the place of either hand, and a damaged blue forearm piece with exposed wires. The new accessories are great, and they'll let you do a lot with him. The renders showed off another forearm piece with an attached scope, and it ended up being cut, but I feel it was unnecessary anyways. Although I waited much longer than expected for this figure to come out, he was worth it. It's not perfect, but it's a deep-cut I'm glad to have in the line, and hopefully they'll be able to do more characters like this. I'm extra glad that I waited a little longer to pick him up, because I managed to buy him for half-price, which is the best way to get Super7 figures. - 12/24/24 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
