Kane (Masters of the WWE Universe) Review
Kane
Masters of the WWE Universe (Mattel)May as well review something spooky this month.
Kane appeared in the 90s, which is a vibe all its own. A bit of a cartoon, he was Undertaker's brother, left deformed and mute by a house fire, but with ill-defined fire powers. Over time, he used a voice box, then regained his speech, lost the mask, and quietly dropped the supernatural angle to good effect. This appears to be his recent retro look, mapped onto Origins Roboto.
And you know what, it works. The greebles are unpainted (no doubt to preserve the color balance as much as the budget), and end up looking somewhat like athletic support devices. Sci-fi devices. Helps balance out the human torso. The head is new, of course, and looks great. The hair is translucent yellow, so the unpainted parts really stand out.
This guy can in fact be stably posed at the height of a choke slam, thanks to his unarmored torso. He's a bruiser, I don't need acrobatics. That, or he can aim his gun menacingly.
I take issue with the gun, though. Pretty sure it's the only one in the line, and the axe would've done just as well. The blast effect is a nice fiery color, though, so I can buy it as a flamethrower. The claw is the same old thing, but still looks decent. They swap with just the right amount of force, but of course lack the swivel-hinge of the other wrist.
The comic is almost too brief to recap, but we do get a brief bio. It reads like you'd expect, very excitable and impressive sounding.
QC issues were minor here, just a stuck elbow. Boil and pop, trim the burr, done. At least it wasn't two joints? I'm trying to be forgiving when I know the odds going in.
What it all boils down to, is that it's an iconic and visually striking character in his best costume, adapted into the MOTU aesthetic via obvious pun, and the QC isn't awful. It's one of the cheaper ones, too. Worth it in my book.
