Bonehead Toxic Crusaders (Playmates)Ladies and gentlemen, The 90s! Toxic Crusaders was an anomaly. The latest in a long line of R-rated films to become a toned-down cartoon, but it was the first to carry a clear environmental theme. Captain Planet via Troma. Also, it was from Troma. Case in point: this half-skeletal neon biker punk. The hideously deformed equivalent (of superhuman size and strength!) of the average Tromaville hooligan, this guy's rocking the full biker outfit in various colors ranging from dark purple to flame orange. Although there's no visible flesh on him, other than his incredibly withered face, the clothed parts are still pretty normal-shaped. Probably the only thing holding him together. As was the Playmates custom at the time, the sculptors far outstripped the paint budget, and there are an awful lot of missed opportunities. But there are still fun sculptural quirks here, like the bullet holes in his collar, or the way his pants hang low on his exposed hip bones. Articulation is around TMNT-standard, with balljoint hips and swivels at the neck, waist, both shoulders, and one elbow. He's a tad bowlegged by default, probably to fit on the motorcycle. Playmates kept things simple here, the only action features being GITD elements. The accessories are nice, though: the Acid Rainmaker looks like a sci-fi bazooka with a crude knife on the stock, but apparently sprays acid. The Bone Blaster is something like a shotgun, but fires femurs, presumably with terrifying force. A knife with bone handle rounds out the weaponry, and a very detailed gas mask fits nicely on his face. All the accessories glow in the dark, as does the green splatter on his boots. And his whole head, too. He looks great under a blacklight. And overall, that's the general vibe of this line. Gross, silly, and downright eye-burning. It's a good look. And this is a good undead punk toy. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
