Baroness (Blue Suit) G.I. Joe (Super7) (Super7)Like the Joes, C.O.B.R.A. has no problem including women in their ranks, such as Baroness, one of the most ruthless members of the organization. I mentioned recently with Flint that Super7 always seems to nail the portraits on the Joe like, looking more close to life than their real-life human figures. As with the good guys in wave two, Baroness has unpainted, glossy skin on her head, but she looks a little nicer than the others, with a bit less shine. In addition to the neutral and smirking expressions, Baroness also comes with a head that I understand is based off her comic look, with shorter hair with blue wash, round glasses with clear lenses, and pink lipstick instead of red. Unlike most Ultimates, she gets a fourth head, another comic-inspired one wearing an oxygen mask and a tank that hangs around her abdomen. All four heads look very nice, thanks to clean paint and again, less shine than the other figures in this wave. Before donning her iconic black outfit, the earliest episodes of the Sunbow cartoon had Baroness wearing a mostly-blue outfit with what I guess are yellow ropes around the neck, shoulders, and waist. It's kinda silly-looking to be honest, but it's a unique look for her, and the vibrant colors make her pop on the shelf. The paint's alright, but suffers from various little issues, ranging from bleed to chipping off. Standing about 7" tall, Baroness moves similar to Lady Jaye with a ball-peg head, chest, and waist, swivel/hinge shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, and ankles, swivel biceps, forearms (only the left one moved for me), thighs, and shins, and hinged knees. Like Jaye, the arms and legs are mostly good, but the chest and waist are both floppy and lack tilt, and the head can't really move at all, which isn't surprising given the long hair. Baroness does well when it comes to accessories, especially because she has four different heads to display her with. They pop on and off without any need for heat, but the O2 mask head seems to have a shallower socket, meaning it can pop off a bit too easily. Her equipment includes a rifle with a removable strap, a small pistol that fits into a pouch that plugs into the figure's waist, a sub-machine gun with scope, a weird firearm that's supposed to be a "camera gun," a knife, and a syringe. All of them are pretty nice, and she'll display well with them if you can work around the limitations in movement. Plenty of hands are also packed in with her, with a pair of fists, a pair of rifle grips, a pair of wide grips, and three extra left hands: one for the smaller firearms, one for the knife, and one for the syringe. I wasn't expecting high quality out of this figure, especially since I knew about her issues beforehand, but Baroness turned out a bit better than I thought. Yes, the articulation kinda sucks, but the less shiny heads and good amount of accessories does help her a bit. Still, I wouldn't pay full price for her. A black suit version is coming out soon (as well as a DIC repaint later this year), so hopefully Super7 ironed out the issues with her for her more signature look. - 2/21/24 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
