Snake Eyes G.I. Joe (Super7) (Super7)If you're familiar with G.I. Joe, then you'd know that there are a lot of characters in it. In the Sunbow cartoon, each of the tens, if not hundreds, of Joe members got at least one episode with them as a major player, but arguably one of the most well-known characters in the franchise as a whole is Snake Eyes, his popularity most likely attributed to the fact that he's a speechless ninja. In the "M.A.S.S. Device) five-part mini series that would ultimately serve as the pilot for the cartoon, Snake Eyes had a completely different look. As opposed to his usual get-up, he wore a bodysuit that had a less "ninja" aesthetic. Since Super7's G.I. Joe Ultimates line is based more off the cartoon than anything else, it's no surprise that they'd do this design of the silent commando before his signature look. The head is completely covered and almost solid blue, if it wasn't for the purple goggles/visor in front of the eyes. I have no idea how he manages to see through this thing, but the head matches the source material well. At 7" tall, Snake Eyes' blue and purple bodysuit covers almost everything but his hands, which have a rather realistic appearance. The bodysuit looks great, and I like the chosen color scheme for it. The chest and a few other muscles press up against the suit, and there is some folding and creasing around the boots. The harness straps over the torso are a softer material, as to prevent them from hindering the articulation (not that it matters much, as I'll say why next paragraph). The simplistic colors, most of which are likely molded in colored plastic, means not much paint variation is present, but the few areas where colors meet up have clean edges. Snake Eyes moves no differently from the other figures, with a barbell head, swivel/hinge shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, and ankles, swivel biceps, thighs, and shins, ab crunch, ball waist, and hinged knees. The chest and waist are locked down quite a lot due to the sculpt, but everything else has good range. Most of the joints move with no issue either; the biceps are pretty tight, but I had little fear of breakage. I noticed the head joint on mine was stuck, due to some glue residue, but it broke free easily. Another thing I noticed was that the right ankle seemingly didn't peg in all the way, giving it a detached look. For armory, Snake Eyes gets the same rifle Duke had, as well as a little laser pistol. Both are simple in colors, but look great with the figure. The jetpack is another nice inclusion, and it slips over the shoulders with ease. He also has a walkie-talkie (which is pointless for a guy who doesn't talk) and a radioactive C.O.B.R.A. canister. The canister came from the aforementioned "M.A.S.S. Device" episodes, and carrying it around caused our commando to glow red. As always, interchangeable hands are included, with sets of grips designed for the pistol and rifle respectively, a pair of wide open hands for two-handed rifle poses, and a pair of fists. The hands slide in and out of the arms easily, but stay in place when posing him. That's not all for this guy, as he comes with Timber, his wolf companion. He has a surprisingly good sculpt, with plenty of detailed fur, and the paint is quite pleasing as well, thanks to a mixture of colors. At about 3" tall and 6" long from snout to the tip of his tail, Timber is articulated enough to qualify as another figure, with ball head, neck, and shoulders, swivel/hinge elbows, wrists, and ankles, swivel hips and tail, and hinged hocks. However, you won't be able to get much out of these joints, mainly the ball pegs, and it's not helped by the sculpt. He's sculpted in a semi-walking pose, but if they were going the articulated route, I would've preferred symmetrical leg placement. While Snake Eyes isn't a perfect figure, the same can be said for the others, and he makes up for his few shortcomings with great sculpting and some nice accessories. Doing a design that most people unfamiliar with the license wouldn't know also shows that Super7 is willing go deep with the characters, proving their dedication to it. I'm glad I waited a bit to get him, as Entertainment Earth recently held a sale where the first wave figures were $11 each. Through that and a discount code, I nabbed Snake Eyes for just under $10, which makes me happier to have him. - 12/27/23 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
