Loid Forger (Suit) Spy x Family (Bandai)There's been plenty of iconic anime and manga in recent years, one of which Spy X Family. It's about a master spy who poses as a family man with a wife and daughter as part of his latest assignment, unaware that they're an assassin and telepath respectively. It's equal parts action-packed, funny, and wholesome, and while I haven't read the manga in a while, nor have I seen the anime, it's definitely something I should get back into. I have been picking up the S.H. Figuarts line, however, and let me tell you, they're good. The figure comes packaged in a small green window box, and while simple in appearance, the graphics look nice, with plenty of figure shots all around, and the color scheme fits the character. It's very easy to get everything out; just snip a piece of tape on the side, slide out the tray, remove the lid, and boom. Agent Twilight, better known as Loid Forger, comes bearing a stoic expression with narrow eyes, and his hair is combed up and parted in the middle. He's very accurate to the source material, and the hair, while rather pointy, is nicely detailed. The eyes seem to be printed on, but everything else is cleanly painted. Loid actually gets five facial options - stoic, smiling, closed-eye smiling, shouting, and surprised. I always like getting an extra portrait or two, but having five looks to choose from is great. Standing around 6 1/2" tall, Loid wears a primarily green suit, and it's handled very well. There's not a lot of color variation on the body, but the areas that aren't the same shade of green sport mostly clean edges. I noticed the darker shade of green is painted on the chest, but molded plastic on the lower torso, resulting in some contrast. Still, they did a great job on the body, and the suit gets some subtle wrinkling that creates a sense of realism. The S.H. Figuarts brand is all about articulation, and Loid has plenty of it. He gets a ball/hinge head aided by a ball-joint for the neck hidden inside the suit, and both get plenty of range. The arms have ball/hinge/swivel shoulders and wrists, along with hinged elbows and extra joints at the torso to further raise the shoulders up and down, and bring the arms forward a bit along the body. The chest and waist are both barbell joints, and while not extreme range, they still move well. In the legs, he gets ball/hinge hips, swivel thighs and calves, hinged knees and toes, and swivel/hinge ankles. All of the joints move well, and there's plenty of poses Loid can take. You may need a dynamic stand for certain poses, due to his thin feet and slightly poor balance. When it comes to accessories, almost all of Loid's extras are just swappable parts. I already mentioned he gets five different faces, and they give Loid plenty of options to express himself, along with easy swapping between portraits. He comes with three pairs of hands - relaxed, gripping, and closed. Scratch that, he actually has six; one set of bare hands, and another set gloved. The extra hands are a bit of a snug fit, so you may want to heat up the sockets beforehand. Lastly, he comes with a pistol for spy work, and while a nice piece, it doesn't fit in the hands well, so you may need something to stick it into his grips. Loid was the first S.H. Figuarts I got in nearly two years, and he certainly reawakened my love for the brand. He looks and poses great, and comes with plenty of interchangeable parts to switch up his look on the shelf. He's not perfect, but he's still well worth the money, and I intend on grabbing much more characters from the line. - 11/20/23 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
