Brain Gremlin (Gremlins 2) Gremlins (Neca) (Neca)"We're advising our clients to put everything they've got into canned food and shotguns." May as well put that money into action figures as well, cause this guy has one. I was excited to hear that NECA had confirmed my hopes that the Brain Gremlin would get a new figure, especially because the one they did in their early days is pretty rare now. He's been hitting retailers for a while now, having recently begun to trickle into Target, my usual place for NECA. The packaging isn't anything too special, just having a photo of the original puppet on the front and photos of the figure on the back. It's not much, but it works. Standing 6" tall, the unique thing about this figure is that rather than his outfit being sculpted, it's soft goods on a base Gremlin body. It fits well on him, and there's velcro on the bottom of the coat to "button" it. The head looks nice, but it's not exactly accurate to how he looked on-screen. The chin could use some touching up, and the ears are a little too big. The paint also could use some work. Don't get me wrong, it looks nice, but the colors need some adjusting. The real bad part is that most of him isn't even painted! The torso, upper arms, and upper legs have no paint at all, and I assume it's because they're covered by the tailored outfit. While it keeps costs down, I expected better from NECA. The articulation isn't much, either. Brain has a ball-jointed neck, swivel/hinge shoulders, elbows, wrists, and ankles, ball-socket hips, and hinged knees; the same articulation the figures from the early 2010s had. No joints at the ears, jaw, or torso like the ultimate G1 figures had. While Greta didn't have the latter two points of articulation either, I let it pass since she had been sculpted for a few years before those figures, but Brain is a different story. That said, he doesn't need a torso joint, but a hinged jaw is necessary for a talkative guy like him. The accessory count is small, but what we have makes sense. There's a pair of tight gripping hands that swap with his regular hands easily. The brain hormone beaker is included, and mine has a bottom that comes off pretty sure. I'm not complaining, though, since I can make it looks as if it's empty. Brain also has a syringe with a plunger that can be moved in and out, and a pipe that fits in his mouth. As much as I love the Brain Gremlin, his figure turned out pretty bad. Somewhat off head sculpt and colors, incomplete paint job, and lacking articulation makes for a rather mediocre figure. Hopefully NECA can go back and improve him by, well, a lot. - 6/26/22 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
