Rocksteady (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Super7)) Review
Rocksteady
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Super7) (Super7)It hasn’t been too long since the third wave of Super7’s TMNT Ultimates began shipping out, and they’re not just available through S7 and other online retailers, a few comic shops have been getting them in as well, but the only two my comic store got are Rocksteady and Metalhead. Had to grab Rocksteady go with the Bebop I already have, of course.

The packaging is just like what we got in waves one and two, but the cardboard backdrop on the inside is different this time around. Originally, you had to pull that out to get to the figure, but here the top flaps up so you can remove the plastic tray more easily, and it’s a nice improvement. There’s also a single twist tie as well to hold in the figure, which is quite a relief.

Remember how big Bebop was? Well, it’s no surprise that Rocksteady is the same height at about 8” tall, and Four Horsemen (are they still sculpting these? I’m not sure) continues to do an impressive job. The skin is far more detailed here than on the original figure, and the straps added to the helmet make it a lot more realistic. Not to mention how well the articulation blends in with the figure. The paint on the figure looks great, too, with good wash on the skin and great camo deco on the pants, though I wish the helmet was more colorful instead of just solid green. I’m also not big on the glossy look of the lower half, and I would’ve liked it to be more like the rest of the figure.

Rocksteady’s articulation is similar to his warthog friend, with a ball-jointed head, swivel/hinge shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, and knees, swivel waist, thighs, and calves, and rocker/hinge ankles. The joints move a lot smoother here than on Bebop, and you can get plenty of good poses. But much like Bebop, I would’ve liked to see bicep swivels on this big guy for more natural arm poses.
We don’t get a lot of accessories here unlike with the rest of wave three, but what we have here is still good. There’s a pair of alternate closed hands, and they swap out with the grips easily, as well as a rifle, knife, manhole cover shield, and three grenades. The grenades weren’t included with the original figure, but they’re a nice addition here. The lack of wash on the rifle and shield is a crime, though. And like always, we got the unpainted weapons sprue much like what the OG figures had.

You can’t have Bebop without Rocksteady, and I’m glad to have him. Okay, so he’s not perfect, but Super7 still did a great job with him and I’m happy. It’s just a shame that he’s the only bad guy in wave three, especially considering how the fourth wave has no villains. With wave five having two more baddies, the sixth better have three villains to make up for this and the fourth wave.
