Shell Shock Turtle Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Turtles in Time (Neca)Thought the only ways to get NECA's TMNT figures were through Target, Walmart, and comic/speciality stores? Think again. Last year saw a good amount of new TMNT Lootcrates with NECA providing an exclusive figure in each one, and we got four of those figures. A repaint of the SDCC comic Shredder in the Mirage crate, a "Shell Shocked" skeletal Turtle in the arcade crate, a bunny Rocksteady in the cartoon crate, and a bonus bunny Bebop if you pre-paid for all three crates at once. I didn't do that plan so I don't have a Bebop, and my Mirage Shredder broke an arm shortly after opening him and I need a new one, but I got the turtle and Rocksteady, and I'll be reviewing the former now. The packaging uses the same design cues as the Turtles in Time figures, though it's slimmer than what we see from the regular figures in that line. Still, it's nice and collector-friendly. The figure here is supposed to be one of the turtles when they get electrocuted in the game, so it's no surprise that it uses the same base body as them here. The only differences here are the head and lack of belt. The head has big bulging eyes and a wide-open mouth with the tongue sticking out, and it also screams "My toe!". One issue I noticed on mine is on the right bicep, which looks kinda damaged on one side, and another is that he stands a bit crooked, tilting over to the right. Is he supposed to stand like that? Anyways, he stands around the same height as the turtles at about 5 3/4". The neat thing NECA decided to do is give him a glow in the dark feature, and they casted the figure in the appropriate plastic to do that. The glow feature works great, and he lights up brightly in the dark. To fit in with the arcade theme, the paint deco has a blocky look to it, and it's very neatly done. The articulation is mostly the same as the regular Turtles, with a swivel bandana tail, ball-jointed neck and waist, swivel/hinge shoulders, elbows, wrists, and hips, swivel biceps and thighs, double-hinged knees, and ball-jointed ankles. Everything moved well with no need to heat anything up. He's very light on accessories, with all he has being an alternate set of gripping hands, in case you want him to hold any weapons. Overall, the Shell Shocked turtle is a pretty neat take on the regular ones, and it'll be great for certain displays. There are a few issues sculpt-wise, but he looks very nice and the GITD feature adds to the turn. It looks as if NECA will be taking a break from video game TMNT figures to focus on the return of the Mirage line that started it all, but the inclusion of Armaggon in the new Lootcrate series might be a sign of what's next to come... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
