RMaster007One thing that can certainly be said about Super7 is that they loving doing glow-in-the-dark figures. How much so? Their first released TMNT Ultimate was one of them, before the regular version even came out. We've since gotten a few others, including the four turtles themselves in "Mutagen Ooze" variants. They looked cool, but the higher $65 price due to the rising cost of glow material, along with it being Super7-exclusive meaning absurd shipping costs kept me away. Just earlier today, I was able to secure one for a good price at the annual Maryland Toy Expo, and it's my favorite turtle: Raphael.
Usually, the glow figure packaging isn't much different from the regular versions outside of different colors and some GITD accents, but that's not the case here. The slip cover is designed...[

Ace DuckTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Super7) - Ultimates!

RMaster007While I enjoy Super7's Ultimates, I'll admit they're overpriced. At $55 each for most figures, the inconsistent quality and occasional lack of accessories make it hard to justify the price. It looks like retailers such as Entertainment Earth realized this, and began marking them down. Ace Duck is one of those, and he's only around $24 there. I didn't get mine through them, but rather during a sale at my local comic store for only $30. Now why can't every Ultimate be that cheap?
Ace Duck has a pretty weird expression, wide-eyed with gritted teeth. Is he supposed to be eager or nervous? It's what the original figure had, though, and Four Horsemen did a good job with him. The pilot's cap is a separate piece, and it fits snugly on his head. They went ahead and gave him an extra head, and...[

Baxter StockmanTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Super7) - Ultimates!

RMaster007I can't believe it took me this long to add this one to my collection, especially when I already have the redeco of him.
As is the case was with most old TMNT toy designs, Baxter was very different from how he looked in the show. His show design was freaky but cute, while his toy design was freaky but… freaky. Compared to how he looked in-show, toy Baxter has a purble and blue head, messy orange head, and visible teeth. The head on the Super7 update looks no different from the original Playmates figure, except it's not stuck looking up. He's still got a bit of a neck there, though. The sculpt was done by Four Horsemen studios, who managed to keep, if not improve, the detail from the old figure.
Baxter is around 7" tall, or 6" if you have his legs squat, and looks just like a larger...[

Ray FilletTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Super7) - Ultimates!

RMaster007There's a lot of characters in the TMNT universe who, despite not being part of the major cast, have gotten plenty of recognition. Take Ray Fillet, for example. The mutant fish hero got a figure in the original line, was a regular in the Adventures comic and had some other print appearances, and was in one of the video games, but never showed up in any animated media (he came close to appearing in the Fred Wolf cartoon, though). Still, he's a somewhat recognizable character, hence why Super7 has given him the Ultimate treatment.
Standing around 6 1/2", Ray hasn't been changed too much from his original figure, with very subtle differences being present. The big grin isn't as crooked, but the head still looks very nice, especially with the shine on the eyes and teeth, the latter of which...[

LeatherheadTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Super7) - Ultimates!

RMaster007Time to take a look at a big ol' ultimate gator, by gumbo!
Leatherhead stands about 6 1/2" tall, which doesn't sound that big, but he actually has quite a bit of heft to him, hence why he comes in a larger box like Muckman and Slash do. Because of how big his tail is, it comes detached from him in the box, and you'll need to warm up the plastic to pop it on. Super7's take on him is a pretty faithful recreation of the original Playmates figure in a larger scale, with all of the details being kept, including his scaly skin. The gator's leathery jacket is a separate piece, molded out of soft plastic, as is the pants overlay on the crotch. The belt, rather than being a separate piece, is molded onto the pants, but all the little junk on it are now individual pieces. Leatherhead also gets...[

RMaster007Being a toy collector can be a pretty costly hobby, especially in the case of TMNT. A good handful of the original figures fetch a pretty penny nowadays, especially Scratch the cat, who is worth thousands of dollars. Fortunately, Super7 has given us a cheaper option.
Scratch's sculpt, like most TMNT Ultimates, is an updated and upscaled version of the original Playmates figures. Standing around 6 3/4" tall, Scratch has a few changes to his appearance, the most notable of which being a ball and metal chain attached to the clamp on his left leg. I wish it was removable, but I can live. He also now sports a bandage on his tail and messier hair on his cheeks. The file that hangs around his neck is a separate piece now as well, but you'll have to pop his head off to remove it.
The feline's...[

KrangTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Super7) - Ultimates!

RMaster007What are the odds that the fifth and sixth waves of TMNT Ultimates would drop around the same time? Eh, the fifth wave was long overdue anyways, which also means this guy was overdue.
Krang, the evil brain from Dimension X, was one of the main villains in the original cartoon and toyline, so why it took five waves for Super7 to do him is beyond me. The brain here is about 1 3/4" tall, and 1 1/2" long and wide, a good deal bigger than I thought he would be. He's clearly an updated version of the old toy, with modernized details and very clean paint. Since Super7 likes to do alternate heads with a lot of their Ultimates, a second Krang is included here, with a wide-open mouth and waving tentacles, and it's definitely a nice inclusion. His tentacles are swivel/hinge joints, and can be...[

Foot Soldier (Glow)Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Super7) - Ultimates!

RMaster007When the TMNT Ultimates line was just starting, the Foot Soldier was one of the first figures I've gotten from it. I was impressed quite a bit by it, thanks to its great sculpt and plenty of accessories. While not perfect, it along with the SDCC glow-in-the-dark Baxter gave me a good idea what to expect from Super7.
Earlier this year, Super7 put up a glow-in-the-dark "Footbot Blue" version of the Foot for pre-order, but with one catch: you could only get it through Super7's online store, which meant crazy shipping. I bit because the original was one of my favorites from the line, and it just arrived recently. These were originally meant to ship next year, so it's nice to get them early.
The packaging is rather unique on this figure, but it's similar to the glow Baxter that kicked off...[

Casey JonesTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Super7) - Ultimates!

RMaster007After these recent waves, it's going to be a while before any new TMNT Ultimates drop. Okay, we got the glow-in-the-dark Foot Soldier shipping now and the "mutagen ooze" turtles should be showing up early next year, but it still gives us plenty of time to catch up on previous releases, including one I've been waiting a long while to add to my collection.
Casey Jones is, like just about everyone else, a modernized version of an old Playmates figure, but I feel that the head on the original looks better than the one. I don't know what makes me not like the Super7 head so much: maybe it's the smaller eyes, the slightly different shape of the mask, or the rounded lines for the cheekbones, but yeah, not as good.
The rest looks just fine, with all the little details have be recreated,...[

Sewer Surfer MikeTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Super7) - Ultimates!

RMaster007It may be autumn, but this guy's still ready for the beach. While both waves 5 and 6 of TMNT Ultimates are here, I've been hearing of quality issues in the former that are holding me off from buying them, so wave 6 is my main focus. And with it is another Michelangelo, this time based off a variant of him from the first years of the original line.
The 1990's Sewer Surfer Mike had a big grin on his face and sunglasses, and that expression is included here, but his default head is a new expression, with a wide open mouth and his tongue hanging out. The sunglasses are a separate piece, rather than being sculpted onto his face. Both heads look great, and the best part is that the skin tone is the same as the regular Mikey, so you can use the heads here on that figure if you wish.
Standing...[
