RMaster007Yeah, sure, sixth-scale is cool and all, but what about quarter-scale? I will admit I feel that not a lot of companies are doing stuff in a ¼ scale, but NECA is one that enjoys doing it. But rather than being super-expensive statues and whatnot, their offerings in this size range are affordable and fully-posable. I got my first figure in this scale a while back, and not surprisingly, it’s a Ninja Turtle, and the best one at that.
This is not the first time NECA did quarter-scale Turtles, though. They did some movie ones a few years back, and a lot of people enjoyed them. It was last year that they announced the toon line would be receiving this treatment as well, starting with Raphael. While we ended up waiting longer than anticipated for him, he saw release in the first quarter (get...[

Wingnut and ScrewlooseTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Classic Cartoon (Neca) - Multi-Packs

RMaster007As NECA goes deeper into the Turtle hole, we get more and more lesser-known characters from the cartoon. Earlier this month, we saw the release of not one, but two two-packs at Target. One of them is Dirtbag and Groundchuck from “Planet of the Turtleoids” (sure is a popular episode over there at NECA, these are the third/fourth characters from it), and the other is Wingnut and Screwloose, who solely appeared in “Zach and the Alien Invaders”. Much like how they were depicted in the toyline and Archie comics, these two were aliens, but they were villains in the cartoon. Like we’ve seen with previous releases, these sets are hitting stores in large numbers, and that’s definitely a good thing.
The packaging is the same as always, but with slightly updated graphics. In this case, the images...[

Napoleon and AttilaTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Classic Cartoon (Neca) - Multi-Packs

RMaster007Let’s face it. While Playmates has given TMNT a lot of love over the years, I feel like NECA is giving the proper treatment it deserves nowadays. With various different lines going on right now, plenty of characters, and some upcoming crossover figures with Universal Monsters, we’re pretty much getting spoiled. One thing to note about them is that they’re doing characters that have never been made into figures before, such as Granitor from the original cartoon and Danny Pennington from the first movie (who I will review soon), but what’s really special is that unlike Playmates, they’ve done all four of the Punk Frogs. We got the first two, Rasputin and Genghis, back in the spring, and just recently Napoleon and Attila have begun to hit stores. Like other cartoon figures, they’re Target...[

Colossal Chrome DomeTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Classic Cartoon (Neca) - Basic Series

RMaster007Move over, Krang, we got the biggest (non-quarter-scale) figure in NECA’s ’87 TMNT line, and his name is Chrome Dome. And the company seems pretty boastful about that.
The packaging is pretty much like what we’ve been seeing with these single-packed TMNT figures so far, what with the artwork and all. It definitely looks nice, and I wouldn’t be surprised if the art on the back is a hint to a future figure (hint: the fifth turtle). It’s collector-friendly like always, but I hope you don’t mind cutting out plastic ties like usual.
Chrome Dome appeared twice in the series, and his height was different in both. “Planet of the Turtleoids” depicted him as gigantic, but “Night of the Rogues” made him smaller, standing only just a few feet taller than everyone else. The height of the figure here...[

Muckman & Joe Eyeball (Muck Everlasting)Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Classic Cartoon (Neca) - Basic Series

RMaster007What better feeling is there than going into Target and finding that one figure you’d never thought you would ever see in-store? I experienced that feeling when I went to one store and was lucky enough to see one of NECA’s latest TMNT releases, Muckman, right on the shelves. Considering the fact that I never saw Metalhead, Krang, or the Ultimate Foot Soldier in-store, seeing him and Mondo was a pleasant surprise. They were one-off characters in the original cartoon, but they were still pretty memorable (at least more so from the old Playmates line, but still).
The packaging continues the trend of FHE-styled box art, and the illustrations still look as great as ever. This box is pretty tall as well, but I have a feeling that the one for the upcoming Chrome Dome will be much bigger. Being...[

Foot Soldier (Trouble's Afoot)Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Classic Cartoon (Neca) - Basic Series

RMaster007NECA sure knows how to make the most out of a figure, huh? We’ve seen this Foot Soldier like what, eight times? Sure, they included it in two-packs, that SDCC eight-pack, and even damaged versions, but never by itself. Now that has changed with the ultimate release.
The packaging art is inspired by the old VHS tapes, but this is the coolest looking one they did. A small army of these diabolical droids scaling the rooftops is shown on the front, and it’s definitely beautiful. Everything inside is neatly packed inside plastic trays, and there’s only a few bits of plastic ties and tape you need to remove.
The sculpt of the Foot Soldier here is almost exactly like previous releases, with the only changes in it being the articulation, but more on that later. Standing around 6 ¼” tall, it...[

Mondo Gecko (Shred, Mondo, Shred!)Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Classic Cartoon (Neca) - Basic Series

RMaster007It sure has gotten easier to get NECA’s TMNT figures, huh? With the distribution on them having improved along with online pre-orders for certain releases, fans couldn’t be happier. Those of the most recent releases now, the ultimate toon Mondo Gecko and Muckman, got offered a while back on NECA’s online store NOT as pre-orders, but direct stock, and they’re shipping out now from them. I only ordered Mondo and just got him in, so let’s take a look.
Like with past TMNT toon ultimates such as Metalhead and Krang, Mondo uses new artwork based off of the old VHS tapes for the packaging. It looks great and pretty much shows how much NECA cares for the license. As with any ultimate box, this one is easy to open, but you’ll have to cut some tape and plastic ties to get everything out.
Mondo...[

RMaster007My turtle collection is ever-growing, and I got the latest addition here, Rasputin the Mad Frog and Genghis Frog by NECA. I finally managed to find this two-pack yesterday, and now it's review time.
The packaging is the same style like every other two-pack, but they went with a swamp backdrop for inside the box, which fits the characters well. The Punk Frogs all looked the same on the show, with only their apparel being different, so it's no surprise these two share the same sculpt. Both frogs are accurate to their on-screen appearance, though their torsos are taller than in-show, but that's not a big deal. One thing definitely worth noting here is that there's two different heads for both frogs, a neutral expression and a scared one. I love the scared head because it's perfect for...[

Zarax and ZorkTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Classic Cartoon (Neca) - Multi-Packs

RMaster007Another day, another review, and no surprise that it’s from NECA’s TMNT line. This review is for the Triceratons Zarax and Zork. While the Triceratons were introduced pretty early on in the Mirage comics, it wasn’t until season 7 that they appeared in the original show, and it’s the same episode with Donatello as Batma- er… the “Dark Turtle”. NECA is doing a Dark Turtle for the new LootCrate series, which I already ordered, but at least for now I have the other key part of the classic episode. I’ve had these figures for quite a while now, and it took me until now to review them.
Both figures share most of the same parts, such as the arms, chest, tail, and legs. The only parts different on both are the heads, armor, and crotch area. The reuse – which comes from the Triceraton Infantryman...[

Slash and LeatherheadTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Classic Cartoon (Neca) - Multi-Packs

RMaster007NECA's really been upping their game with TMNT recently, with the new LootCrate series, upcoming movie April, and plenty of preorders. Speaking of which, this month finally sees the shipment of much-awaited preordered products, including the movie accessory pack, cartoon diorama, and the Slash/Leatherhead two-pack. The last one isn't new, having shown up at Target first, but the NECA Store offered another chance to get them. I got them and the accessory pack, which I'll be reviewing soon, but for now, time for the rogues to get the spotlight.
The packaging is just like the others, so let's just move onto the figures, starting with Slash. Comparing him to the VG Slash I already own, it's not hard to tell that there's some reuse with the toon one, mainly the shell, neck, and feet. There's...[
