As a multiple olympic gold medalist, Jefferson Pierce could easily have turned his fame into fortune. Instead, he chose to return to his old crime-ridden neighborhood as a high school teacher - and Black Lightning, hero of the streets and protector of ordinary people threatened by criminals and their activities.

Acting as both everyday school-teacher Jefferson Pierce and super hero Black Lightning, this amazing crimefighter battles the evil organization known as The 100, as well as numerous street gangs. Overcoming his upbringing in Metropolis' notoriously dangerous streets, Black Lightning uses the incredible lightning generated by his body to battle his foes.
